Qualifying for the next three successive World Cup finals they failed in 2010 and 2014 before regaining status for the 2018 Russia World Cup. They were knocked out in the group stage beating Egypt and losing to Russia and Uruguay. They won their AFC World Cup qualification group for 2022 to book their place in Group C, which also includes Mexico and Argentina.
