Poland

Their last appearance was in Russia 2018 where they were knocked out in the group stages, as they were in 2002 and 2006. The golden age of Polish World Cup football came between 1974 and 1986. In the 1974 World Cup held in Germany, Poland had an amazing tournament and finished in 3rd place beating Brazil 1 – 0 and the scorer that day, Grzegorz Lato, finished the tournament as top scorer with seven goals. They also finished in 3rd place in the 1982 World Cup held in Spain. They would ultimately be knocked out in the semi-finals by Italy and beat France to claim 3rd place. Poland qualified for the 2022 World Cup finishing second in their group and beating Sweden 2 – 0 in a play-off final.

Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabians had to wait until 1994 before they qualified for their first World Cup, hosted in the USA. They went on to their best finish making the round of 16, beating Morocco and Belgium in the group stages. Qualifying for the next three successive World Cup finals they failed in 2010 and 2014 before regaining status for the 2018 Russia World Cup. They were knocked out in the group stage beating Egypt and losing to Russia and Uruguay. They won their AFC World Cup qualification group for 2022 to book their place in Group C, which also includes Mexico and Argentina.

The 2022 World Cup will see Poland play Saudi Arabia for the 4th time. On the three previous meetings, Poland has won all three matches and remain unbeaten against Saudi Arabia.
