Jacks or Better is the most popular of video poker games. The game is based upon five-card draw and the aim is to put together the best possible five-card poker hand. The game offers fast paced action, a great deal of excitement, and the chance the chance to win huge payouts of up to 4000 times your bet!

How to Play Jacks or Better

When you first open the game you will be asked how many hands you wish to play simultaneously, 1, 5, 10 or 25. Of course, the more hands you choose the more each round costs, but your chances of winning also increase. After you have selected the number of hands that you wish to play, you then need to set your bet level. There are five of these, and the higher level you play at the greater the potential winnings. You then need to set your hand price; this can be anything from 0.10 up to 20 when playing with one hand, and up to 1 when playing with 25 hands. This means that the game has a betting range of 0.10 up to 125 per round.   When you are happy with your bet click on ‘Deal’ to receive your five cards. You then need to choose which cards to hold and which to discard. To help you, the computer will automatically hold the cards that make the best possible hand. If you are playing with multiple hands then any cards that you hold will be held across all hand. When you are happy with your selection click on ‘Draw’ to replace the remaining cards. You will then be paid out for any hands that have been formed.

Jacks or Better Payouts

Jacks or Better pays out for any poker hand that contains at least a pair of Jacks, i.e. Jacks or Better, Two Pair, Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush, Full House, Four of a Kind, Straight Flush, and Royal Flush.   At the first bet level Jacks or Better pays out 1x, Two Pair pays 2x, Three of a Kind pays 3x, Straight pays 4x, Flush pays 6x, Full House pays 9x, Four of a Kind pays 20x, Straight Flush pays 40x, and a Royal Flush pays 400x. At higher bet levels, these payouts are simply multiplied by the bet level, so at the fourth bet level Two Pair would pay 8x. The only exception to this is the Royal Flush, which at the fifth betting level pays 4000x! This means that if you want to win the biggest payouts it is worth playing at the fifth bet level.

Jacks or Better Special Features

After any win you have the chance to play a gamble game to try to double or quadrupole your payout. If you wish to double your payout you simply need to guess if the next card drawn from a pack will be red or black. To quadruple the payout you will need to guess the suit of the card as well. If you guess correctly then you can repeat the process, but one incorrect guess results in all winnings being lost. If you don’t want to risk all of your winnings then you can choose to gamble just half of them.
